Thrilled to announce that our lab has been awarded an NIH R35 (MIRA) grant to further investigate the mechanisms of transposons regulation and function ! 🎉🏆 🙌 We thank NIH/NIGMS for this incredible opportunity and couldn’t be more excited about the research possibilities ahead!

5/18/23 New paper "Pervasive SUMOylation of heterochromatin and piRNA pathway factors" published in Cell Genomics!
We’re pleased to announce the newest publication from Ninova/Aravin lab: “Pervasive SUMOylation of heterochromatin and piRNA pathway factors.” Using diGly proteomics in Drosophila, we identified sites of SUMOylation on many proteins involved in heterochromatin organization and gene silencing through the piRNA pathway.

4/23 Sabrina joins the lab as a CMDB graduate student!
We are delighted to welcome Sabrina as a graduate student in the lab, after the Fall ‘22 rotation! Sabrina will leverage bioinformatics and experimental work to study transposon biology in the Drosophila model system.

4/22 Lab moved to a new space!
We are delighted to have completed the lab move to a (hopefully) permanent location on the 5th floor of Boyce Hall! Our new space is fully equipped with adjacent fly room, cell culture room, and student office (with great views!

1/22 New class BCH230U: Genomics and Proteomics by Dr Ninova
I am pleased to announce the launch of a new graduate class from the BCH230 Series - Advanced topics in Biochemistry, “Genomics and Proteomics”. The goal of this class is to provide graduate students with insights into the principles behind modern omics technologies that will enhance their ability to understand omics data presented in the scientific literature and make strategic decisions in their research.

1/22 First graduate student Kun Wu joins the lab!
Ninova lab is delighted to welcome our first PhD student Kun Wu! Kun is enrolled in the BCMB graduate program and completed a 10-week rotation in the fall prior to joining.
